MSc in Robotics

The Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is proud to introduce an exciting new taught Master Programme, MSc in Robotics. Programme Objective

The MSc Programme in robotics offers a comprehensive curriculum that seamlessly integrates core principles and cutting-edge techniques in the field of robotics. Students will be equipped with the skills to design, control, and optimize advanced robotic systems, while developing postgraduate-level knowledge in key areas such as autonomous robots, medical robotics, robot sensing, advanced control, and embodied AI. The Programme emphasizes practical skills through hands-on projects and independent research, bridging the gap between robotics and artificial intelligence to enhance robot decision-making and problem-solving capabilities. Part-Time Mode Study

Normative Study Period *: 2 years
Maximum Study Period: 4 years
Tuition Fee: Four installments of HK$70,000

Maximum Study Period: 3 years
Tuition Fee: Two installments of HK$140,000

Remarks: * – A student who cannot complete all programme requirements within the normative period of study shall write to the Graduate School for continuation of study beyond the normative study period, and will be requested to pay fees as required.

Admission

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have:

  1. Graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a science discipline, normally with Second Class Honours or higher, or an average grade of “B” or better in their undergraduate course of study; or
  2. Completed a related course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honour degree in related fields; or
  3. Graduated with a degree in other fields but have a relevant background, e.g., extensive working experience in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, automation, and other related industries.

Application

Applicants submit online applications via the Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes.

Application deadline: April 30, 2025 (subject to availability of quota and highly recommend to submit online application as early as possible)

Applicants are required to upload following scanned copies to the Online Application System for Postgraduate Programmes.

Study Programme Requirements

M.Sc. Programme in Robotics (Full-time and Part-time)
1. Coursework Requirement
Students are required to complete at least eight graduate courses (24 units or above) for graduation.
(i) Required Course (students are required to take THREE of the following required courses):
ROSE5710, 5720 and 5730 9 units
(ii) Elective Courses (students are required to take any FIVE of the following elective courses):
BMEG5750(1) ENGG5402, MAEG5160(2) MAEG5725, 5760(3) ROSE5740, 5750, 5760, 5770, 5780, 5790, 5910 15 units
Total : 24 units
Remarks:
1. M.Sc. course is offered by Division of Biomedical Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong
2. Research postgraduate courses are offered by Division of Mechanical and Automation Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong
3. M.Sc. courses are offered by Division of Mechanical and Automation Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong
2. Other Requirements:
(a) Students must fulfill the Term Assessment Requirement of the Graduate School. For details, please refer to Section 13.0 “Unsatisfactory Performance and Discontinuation of Studies” of the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies which can be accessed from the Graduate School Homepage: http://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk.
(b) A Student must achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in order to fulfill the graduation requirement, unless special approval is granted by the Graduate Council.
