Title: A quick method for evaluating the disinfection effectiveness of far-UVC light on bioaerosol transport based on Markov chain model

Authors: Wenjie Huang, Kangqi Guo, Yue Pan, Chun Chen

Abstract:

Objective

Control of bioaerosol transmission is crucial for reducing infection risks, especially in enclosed indoor environments. Ultraviolet C (UVC) light is one of the major disinfection methods for bioaerosols. Recently, far-UVC light was developed with less harm to humans but still effective for pathogens. For better design and application, it is important to predict the far-UVC disinfection effect on aerosol transmission. As a powerful simulation tool, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been wildly used for aerosol transport prediction. However, the existing CFD-based models require a great computational cost. Thus, this study aims to develop a quick evaluation method based on the Markov chain model to investigate the disinfection effect of far-UVC light on aerosol transport.
